Preparing for your session & aftercare: the practical guide

A session is prepared — and it continues afterwards. A few simple steps before and after your appointment help you get the most out of it, whether you are coming for physiotherapy or for hijama. Here is what you need to know, with no surprises on the day.

Before the session: four simple steps
Bring your documents. If you have X-rays or a prescription, bring them: this is required. Add your recent test results (MRI scans, reports) and the list of your current treatments. These documents help the practitioner understand your situation from the assessment onwards — and save you from telling the same story twice.
Dress comfortably. Clothing suited to the area being treated, easy to uncover without discomfort, without bulky jewellery. For hijama, plan clothing that allows access to the back or the area concerned.
Arrive a few minutes early. That leaves time for the formalities, to settle in calmly and to start the session on time — without rushing.
Note what you feel. Where the pain is, what triggers or relieves it, how long it has lasted: this information is precious for the assessment, as we explain in our guide on back pain.
How a session runs
The first visit starts with an interview that includes assessments and tests, to properly frame the treatment: your history, your background, the evaluation of your movements, your posture and your strength. Then the programme generally combines manual techniques, therapeutic exercises and advice adapted to your daily life.
Each physiotherapy session lasts 45 minutes, each hijama session 30 minutes. The number of sessions depends on your case and how you progress, and is decided with you.
⚠ Good to know
Contact the centre or your doctor if an unusual symptom persists after your session.
After the session: rest and listen
Rest, drink water and follow the advice given during the session. Slight tiredness or temporary sensitivity may occur: most often it is a sign the body is responding. Avoid intense effort for the rest of the day and give yourself time to recover.
If you have a question after the session — about a sensation, a recommended exercise or what comes next — write to the centre: a quick answer is better than a lingering doubt.
