Back pain in Marrakech

Back pain — lower back pain — is one of the most common reasons for consultation: pain in the lower back, morning stiffness, difficulty bending, carrying a child or sitting for long periods. It can appear after an effort, an awkward movement, or settle in gradually with sedentary work.

At Elite Physio Centre, in Guéliz, care starts with a full assessment, followed by a physiotherapy programme tailored to your case: manual techniques, therapeutic exercises and practical advice for your everyday movements. Sessions last 45 minutes, by appointment only.

The most frequent signs

  • Pain in the lower back, on one side or both
  • Stiffness, especially in the morning or after staying in one position
  • Pain that increases when bending, carrying or sitting
  • A feeling of blockage or muscle spasm
  • Pain that sometimes travels down into the buttock or the leg

Why does the back hurt?

  • Prolonged postures (desk, driving) and lack of physical activity
  • Repeated efforts and movements, carrying loads
  • Weak back and abdominal muscles
  • Stress and fatigue, which maintain muscle tension
  • Old injuries or natural wear of the joints and discs

Care at the centre

The first session is devoted to the assessment: your practitioner examines your mobility, locates the pain and defines a personalised programme with you.

  • Manual techniques to relieve pain and release tension
  • Therapeutic exercises: mobility, strengthening of the back and abdominal muscles
  • Posture and ergonomics advice for work and home
  • Follow-up of your progress, session after session, with the same practitioner

The goal: effective pain relief, better mobility — and the right habits to prevent relapses.

⚠ Warning signs

See a doctor urgently first if the pain comes with a loss of strength in one leg, urinary problems or numbness in the perineal area.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a prescription to treat back pain?

Most often yes: physiotherapy is provided on medical prescription, and the prescription is required for reimbursement. Bring any recent examinations (X-rays, MRI) if you have them.

How long does a session last?

Each session lasts 45 minutes. The first one is largely devoted to the assessment: understanding the origin of your pain before starting rehabilitation work.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your case and your progress: the number of sessions is often set by the prescription, then reassessed as you improve. The goal is to stop as soon as independence is regained, with no unnecessary sessions.

What is the difference between back pain and sciatica?

Back pain stays localised in the lower back. Sciatica follows the path of the sciatic nerve, with pain travelling into the buttock and the leg. The assessment at the centre distinguishes the two and adapts the care — we have a dedicated page on sciatica.

Can hijama complement back treatment?

Some patients choose to complement their follow-up with hijama sessions, also offered at the centre. Your practitioner will tell you whether it suits your situation.
