Physiotherapy in Marrakech: the complete guide
Published on by Elite Physio Centre · Reading time: about 7 minutes
You are looking for a physiotherapist in Marrakech and wondering how it works: do you need a prescription, what does the first session involve, how long does a session last, and how do you choose the right clinic? This guide answers those questions, exactly as we practise every day at our centre in Guéliz.
To book directly, the service page is here: physiotherapy at Elite Physio Centre.
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy (kinésithérapie) is a discipline of care that treats pain and movement limitations through movement itself: manual techniques, therapeutic exercises, mobilisations and functional rehabilitation. It addresses back and joint pain as well as rehabilitation after surgery, respiratory disorders and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
It is different from a simple massage: every programme is built from an assessment and precise goals, then adjusted according to your progress.
Services offered at our Guéliz centre
Our centre covers the main fields of physiotherapy, provided by the same practitioner from assessment through follow-up:
- General physiotherapy — back, neck and joint pain, tendinitis, sports injuries. See also our dedicated pages: back pain, sciatica, tendinitis, sports injuries.
- Respiratory physiotherapy — support for respiratory conditions, children and adults.
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation — provided by a woman, in a suitable setting. See our dedicated page: female physiotherapist in Marrakech.
- Post-operative rehabilitation — after orthopaedic surgery, following your surgeon's protocol. See: post-operative rehabilitation.
- Lymphatic drainage — manual, for heavy legs and oedema. See: lymphatic drainage.
- Birth preparation and hijama complete the centre's offer.
Prescription and reimbursement
Physiotherapy is most often done on a doctor's prescription: GP, specialist or surgeon. The prescription generally specifies the type of care and the number of sessions, and it determines reimbursement by your insurance or mutual fund. Check with your insurer before the first session to know your entitlements.
Bring your prescription to the first visit, along with your recent examinations: X-rays, ultrasounds or MRI scans help the practitioner target the assessment.
The first session: the assessment
The first session is devoted to the assessment: understanding your pain or your situation, your medical history and current treatments, evaluating your movements, your strength and your range of motion, then defining the goals and steps of the programme with you. It is this assessment that determines the content of the following sessions — not an identical protocol for everyone.
Each session then lasts 45 minutes, and the programme is reassessed as you progress.
How to choose your physiotherapist in Marrakech
Three simple criteria: the speciality that matches your need (a clinic that treats your condition every day); proximity — regular sessions are easier to keep when the clinic is close to your home or workplace, and ours is located in Guéliz, right in the city centre; and the quality of the first conversation — a serious assessment from the very first session is the best sign of serious follow-up.
Be wary of promises of recovery within a fixed number of sessions set in advance: honest rehabilitation adapts to your case, and its pace is decided with you.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a prescription to see a physiotherapist?
Most often yes: physiotherapy is usually done on a doctor's prescription, and the prescription determines whether your sessions are reimbursed. Bring it to your first visit, along with your recent examinations (X-rays, ultrasound, MRI) if you have any.
How long does a session last?
Each session lasts 45 minutes. The first one is devoted to the assessment: understanding your pain or your situation, evaluating your movements and building your programme.
How many sessions should I plan for?
It depends on your case and how you progress: the number is often set by the prescription, then reassessed according to your progress — with no unnecessary sessions.
How do I choose a physiotherapist in Marrakech?
Check the speciality that matches your need (back, respiratory, pelvic floor, post-operative, sport), the clinic's location — ours is in Guéliz — and take the time for a first conversation: a good initial assessment is the sign of serious follow-up.
